Joe discovered oil painting relatively late in life when encouraged by his wife,
Gilda Horn, a professional portrait and landscape painter and popular teacher.
Joe spends a good deal of his free time in the studio and painting outdoors.
The majority of the paintings displayed in this venue were painted in the studio, or “en plein air”. “I love the challenge of painting outside in the elements, where the light is constantly changing, and you have to deal with the wind,
insects, and, sometimes, the public.” Joe often hikes to remote locations to
capture original scenes, and to enjoy nature.
